The cruise port of Antalya is 15 kilometers from the historic center of Antalya, but closer to several excellent beach areas. Antalya is the most popular resort destination in Turkey and in 2011 attracted more international visitors than all but two other cities WORLDWIDE. These visitors are primarily visiting a large number of all-inclusive resorts and tend to restrict their activities to the resorts. Antalya has been called Turkey's Las Vegas because many of these seaside resorts have themes and are designed to look like historic places such as Istanbul's Topkapi Palace. Within the city is a compact historic district known as Kaleici containing nearly all of the city's historic sites and offering an enjoyable day of sightseeing for those who want to stay close to the port. The nearest important historic site is Termessos, high in the foothills of the Taurus mountains that surround Antalya. Also nearby are the important Greek and Roman ruins at Perga and Aspendos, which has the most complete Roman amphitheater in the Mediterranean. There are three lovely falls that attract many visitors in the area near Antalya, including the Lower Duden waterfall which is directly on the Mediterranean shore.

Local Currency: Turkish Lira

Primary Language: Turkish

Secondary Languages: Many languages are spoken in Antalya, especially in tourist oriented attractions and businesses

Visa requirements: American and Canadian guests arriving by ship are not required to have a visa in Turkey. Those arriving by plane must get a visa, but can do so upon arrival. Some cruise lines sell Turkish visas for marked-up prices. For convenience this may be worthwhile.
