Barcelona, Spain Cuisine | Where to Eat

Popular Local Cuisine: Catalan cuisine is a blend of Spanish and Mediterranean influences with some local specialties that are popular among tourists. The two most popular choices in the city are probably tapas and paella. While paella did not originate in Catalonia, the easy access to fresh fish and shellfish make it an excellent choice in cosmopolitan Barcelona. It is a rice based dish spiced with saffron and garlic and featuring a variety of seafood. Tapas are like the Greek meze though more often available in buffet style. Intense flavors are the key common element of these finger foods. To see the rich harvest of Catalan, visit the Boqueria just off La Rambla. Here you can sample the items at casual food booths.

Pork and sausage are the most popular meat items. Tomatoes, eggplant, and garlic are the typical ingredients in soups, stews and sauces.
