Batumi City Center

Batumi, Georgia on the Eastern coast of the Black Sea is the largest port and 3rd largest city in the Republic of Georgia and capital of the autonomous republic of Adjara. Despite the recent conflict with Russia (2008), Batumi is in an area that has remained safe since Georgian independence in 1991. It is also a popular destination for tourists since the late 19th century. Since the new government was elected in 2004, significant investment in tourism infrastructure has been made in Batumi. The city itself offers excellent dining and shopping, a variety of museums and houses of worship of many religions and denominations. The beach is busy during the summer, but the nearby towns of Gonia and Kvariati have lovely, less crowded waterfronts. The Botanical Gardens offer a lovely subtropical display.

The city's Evropas moedani is the main square and features a musical fountain and an impressive statue of Medea. The seaside promenade is a favorite among tourists including the recently developed Miracle Park which features the Georgian Alphabet Tower, a massive Ferris Wheel and a moving sculpture known as Ali and Nino. At the southern end of the Promenade are the Dolphinarium, Aquarium and Zoo.
