Gijon's historic Tanguy TowerGijon (pronounced hee-HAHN) is a major port on the north coast of Spain in the autonomous community of Asturias. The city is largest in the region with a lively cultural life, intense sporting traditions (soccer, baseball and American football), lovely area beaches, and the Gijon Aquarium. Nearby are some more popular tourist areas including Oviedo, the capital city of Asturias; Picos de Europa, a national park with dramatic scenery; and the resort area in Llanes.
