Koper, Slovenia Cuisine | Where to Eat

Popular Local Cuisine: Slovenia sits at the crossroads of Italy, Austria and the Balkan region and so has a mix of cooking traditions influenced by all these neighbors. In the Karst region, the most famous culinary tradition is the Osmice, a farmhouse harvest feast now offered from November to June. Local farmers and inns invite visitors to a meal of local foods and wines, including karst proscuitto, sausage, and struklji. Carniolan sausage is the most famous local meat product. Ribe v Savorju is a variety of small marinated fish such as anchovies and red mullet. Jota is a popular pickled cabbage soup. Slovenia offers a wide variety of delectable desserts including Bled vanilla cream cake, prekmurska gibanica (pastry layered with ricotta cheese, nuts and fruits) and potica (rolled pastries).
Slovenia is well-known in the region for its many wines, especially the whites. Though the quality is commonly high, low production limits export quantities.
