Limassol, Cyprus Cuisine | Where to Eat

Includes: Larnaca and Paphos cruise ports

Popular Local Cuisine: Cypriot cuisine, like much in the eastern Mediterranean, is a blend of influences. Because of the extensive agriculture on the island, vegetables are varied and ubiquitous along with local spices, especially mint. Eggplant, okra and artichokes are common ingredients in stews, casseroles and soups. The typical Greek main courses and entrees with local variations are available. There is a long tradition of salting meats on the island, so hams such as Luntza and other varieties are popular, along with country style sausages. Kohlrabi salad, fish roe salad and grilled black olives are some interesting meze options. Grilling is a popular preparation method.

Cyprus has a renowned and ancient wine tradition. Rose water (non-alcoholic) beverages are offered all over the island. The local raki is called zivania and brandy is commonly available.
