Portofino, Italy Shops | What to Buy

Nearby Ports: Santa Margherita, Rapallo

Recommended Purchases: The cities and villages along the Ligurian coast have their weekly markets where local flowers, produce and agricultural products can be found. It may not be practical to buy these items but I often find these markets great window shopping. In addition, there are a number of monthly craft and antique markets in many of the towns which are definitely a pleasure if you enjoy shopping. The largest is in the town of Chiavari (near Portofino) on the second Sunday and following Saturday. If you happen to be in port in Liguria (Genoa, Portofino, La Spezia or even Savona) this might be worth the drive. The most famous local crafts are the ceramics produced in Albisola near Savona.

Local white wines, including some famous sweet white (similar to ice wine) are popular purchases, along with the Ligurian olive oil.
