Portoferraio (Elba), Italy Cuisine | Where to Eat

Popular Local Cuisine: Though classic Tuscan cuisine is readily available on the island of Elba, there are a number of local specialties that are worth trying including Il Cacciucco all' Elbana, the local fish soup. Similar to Provence's ratatouille is the local vegetarian Il Gurguglione. Rice with squid ink is popular, along with pasta served with wild boar, one of the two indigenous wild mammals. Other specialties include spaghetti with a crab sauce and fried anchovies.

Portoferraio's wines have been renowned for a millennia and still catch the unsuspecting off guard with their quality. The most unique of these wines is the Elba Aleatico Passito, recognized for its excellence in 2010 - very rare for a dessert red wine.
