Palamos is a small walkable city with excellent shopping and a nice promenade with cafes and bars along the water. The most popular attraction in town besides the shopping is the Fishing Museum, which sounds odd, but is reputed to be a lot of fun. Across the bay from Palamos is Sant Antoni de Calonge with its hilltop medieval village. A short distance in the other direction is the beach at La Fosca in a small bay with the ruins of a small fortress. The largest resort town in the immediate vicinity is Platja d'Aro, which is part of the city Castell-Platja d'Aro. Castell d'Aro is inland and has a medieval fortress and church surrounded by a wall. Platja d'Aro is a resort area with a 2 km long beach and villas built by wealthy seasonal residents.

Founded in the late 10th century, the Monastery of Sant Feliu (Felix) de Guixols (Ropemaker) became the center of a thriving seaside town. The striking Romanesque structure now serves a city museum. The tree-lined Passieg de Guixols is the center of cafe life for this lively tourist spot. The beach area is dominated by fishing boats and is not suited to beach activities. The city is home to many wealthy residents who have built impressive modern homes, many along the water. The road along the coast to Tossa de Mar is considered one of the most dramatic drives in the region.

In the small city of Figueres, Dali built his museum at the location of a theater destroyed during the Spanish Civil War. The museum is essentially a massive work of surrealist art, as everything in it was especially designed to be there. Also in Figueres is the Dali Jewel Collection. The Castle of Pubol is also known as the Gala Dali Castle in honor of the artist's wife. Their tombs are on the grounds of this medieval building that Dali outfitted to suit his personality. On the craggy coast of the Cap de Creus peninsula is the most exclusive and unusual Dali attraction, his home at Portlligat. Built over a period of 40 years, it is actually several connected buildings on multiple levels. If offers a unique look at the artist's personal style. Tickets are very limited, so you must book in advance.
